A stray dog’s inspiring weight loss journey at a sanctuary hit a wall, but now she’ll hopefully get back on track at a weight loss boot camp.

Cindy Crawford the dog was rescued off the Thailand streets in September by Happy Doggo, which was started by Niall Harbison. She was a 90-pound dog who could barely walk. Her hair was falling out, pressure points and sores covered her body, and she was in pain.

The team at Happy Doggo quickly brought her back to the sanctuary to start her weight loss journey slowly and steadily. They estimated she needed to lose about 45 pounds.

In a month, she lost six pounds and went from not being able to walk 20 yards to doing 750 in the morning. Another 14 pounds came off since, but with more to go, her progress reached a plateau.

As Harbison worded it in the February 20 TikTok video posted to @happydoggoniall, Cindy got kicked off the island, but “for her own good.” She is now in boot camp and living with Lana, who helps the sanctuary.

While she had become an icon at the sanctuary in Koh Samui, Harbison said in the video that Cindy had been getting too much access to food there. He thinks Cindy was getting slipped treats, with people coming and going. Workers were even sharing their lunches with her.

The team also wanted to accelerate the rest of her weight loss, but with other dogs to care for, Cindy was not getting the undivided attention she needed. Thankfully, Cindy is in good hands living with Lana now. She’s a personal trainer and will be able to keep a close eye on Cindy.

Lindsay Angus, head of operations, told Newsweek via email that Cindy has only been in boot camp for a few days so there is no real update on her progress. However, she is having a good time with Lana.

Cindy will be living with Lana for the next couple of months while she drops the last of the unwanted weight. After that, she’ll be off to her forever home. Cindy already has hundreds of adoption applications, which means she’ll be with her forever family in no time.

Those who have been following her journey since the beginning are cheering her on. The clip had over 23,100 views, 1,633 likes and 60 comments as of Friday.

“You’re doing the right thing. Good on you for taking such good care of her. She deserves to be healthy and you’re helping her in the best way you can to get there,” said a viewer.

Another added: “Sad tears turned to happy tears. Lana is so good with her.”

The sanctuary will continue to update Cindy’s fans about her weight loss journey as she’s in the final stretch.
