A new Pei Wei Asian Kitchen is coming to this shopping plaza in far southwest Fort Worth, a couple of blocks from an exit of the Chisholm Trail Parkway and less than a mile from North Crowley High School.

The Chinese food restaurant will go into an existing building on 9617 Red Dirt Rd., with renovation plans on the 2,305-square-foot space estimated to cost $350,000, according to a permit application on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Many development projects have been planned for the neighborhood. The Star-Telegram reported in December 2023 of preliminary plans for a Target along McPherson Boulevard, on land just to the west of the parkway interchange where there hasn’t been much commercial development yet. More recently, newly filed records show McDonald’s plans for a new $1 million, 3,800-square-foot restaurant.

Pei Wei is owned by PWD Acquisition LLC of Laguna Hills, California, that bought the then Irving-based chain in 2019. The investment company is owned and managed by Lorne Goldberg who also owns and operates the quick service Asian restaurant concepts Pick Up Stix, Leeann Chin and Mandarin Express, with approximately 165 stores in 23 states.

The Asian kitchen operates more than 160 company-owned stores and at least two dozen franchises in nearly 20 states and South Korea. It employs nearly 4,000 people.

Pei Wei offers a dine-in room, takeout and delivery. The restaurant also accepts catering orders with shareable entrees, sides and dessert. Asian food offerings at the restaurant include a new addition, Firecracker Shrimp, which is a dish of crispy shrimp tossed in sweet and spicy sauce served with scallions. The menu also offers Thai Coconut Curry Chicken, Mongolian Steak and Salmon Poke Bowl. A shareable menu item that is good for 4-5 people includes four regular-sized entrees with a choice of rice, crab wontons, chicken dumplings or lettuce wraps and a dessert of Thai doughnuts.

Construction begins in early March, and the restaurant is expected to open by the fall.
