Country strong! Jason Aldean‘s relationship with wife Brittany Aldean started with a scandal – and the couple has continued to spark controversy over the years.

The “Dirt Road Anthem” artist had been married to Jessica Ussery for more than 10 years when he was caught getting cozy with Brittany at a bar in September 2012. He issued a public statement about what went down with the aspiring singer, who was a contestant on American Idol season 11, saying he “screwed up” and “acted inappropriately.”

Though he added that he was sorry for “embarrassing my family and myself,” he filed for divorce from Ussery in April 2013, shortly after Us Weekly broke the news of the pair’s split.

Jason – who shares two daughters with Ussery – went on to marry Brittany in 2015. The couple then welcomed two children of their own.

While the duo have enjoyed many sweet family moments together, their controversial opinions – and support of each other’s headline-making behavior – have continued to spark backlash throughout the years.

September 2012 The Buck Commander owner issued a public statement after he was photographed getting cozy with Brittany in Los Angeles. "The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar," he wrote via Facebook. "I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that's the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself. I'm not perfect, and I'm sorry for disappointing you guys. I really appreciate being able to work through this privately with my family and for all your continued support." Jim Smeal/BEI/Shutterstock

August 2022 Brittany raised eyebrows among fans — and fellow country artists — after captioning an Instagram post, "I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life." Her opinion was slammed by several celebrities, including Cassadee Pope, who tweeted, "You'd think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. But instead, here we are, hearing someone compare their 'tomboy phase' to someone wanting to transition. Real nice." Maren Morris replied to the Voice alum, "It's so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie." Jason defended his spouse amid the drama, writing in a comment on one of her Instagram posts, "MY Barbie." Ryan Hurd, meanwhile, took his wife's side. "Scoring quick points by picking on trans kids isn’t something that is brave at all," the songwriter tweeted. "And I'm proud of Maren for sticking up for them. Badge of honor to have CO engage in completely normal discourse, too. Shut up and sing only applies to those who you disagree with." AFF-USA/Shutterstock

July 2023 After Jason came under fire for the May 2023 release of his controversial song "Try That in a Small Town" — which featured lyrics many viewed as racist — Brittany came to his defense and tried to deflect the situation. “Media … it’s the same song and dance. Twist everything you can to fit your repulsive narrative,” she wrote after the song made headlines in June. “How about instead of creating stories, we focus on the REAL ones such as CHILD TRAFFICKING? Food for thought.” Casey Flanigan/imageSPACE/Shutterstock
