George Clooney Asked About Wife Amal Being Out of His League

George Clooney is fully well aware what a lucky man he is when it comes to his wife of nearly a decade, British-Lebanese human rights lawyer Amal Clooney. In fact, the 64-year-old thinks that even he doesn’t live up his wife’s impeccably high standards, as he joked in a recent interview.

“Yes, and I still do [think that],” Clooney told Page Six when asked if he felt like he were “punching above” his weight with Amal, when the outlet caught up with him over the weekend at a special screening of his new film The Boys in the Boat at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

“Everyone would say the same thing,” the actor added with a laugh, as he evidently believes that’s a common understanding.

Before Clooney met his wife, he was generally considered to be one of the eligible bachelors in Hollywood. After his four-year marriage to actress Talia Balsam ended in 1993, the Ocean’s Eleven star had a string of high-profile relationships with women including Cameron Diaz, Renée Zellweger, Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis, and former WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler.

However, when Clooney met Amal, née Alamuddin in 2013, he bonded with the Columbia Law School adjunct professor over their humanitarian work. The pair wed in 2014, and went on to cofound the Clooney Foundation for Justice two years later. They also welcomed heavy-metal-loving twins, daughter Ella and son Alexander, in 2017.

Yet, even after all that, Clooney still thinks his wife is out of his league. Perhaps someday he’ll finally believe he’s worthy.
