Costco brings back a popular favorite (right before the holidays)

The holidays are right around the corner, and smart retailers are doing everything they can to attract more buyers before the shopping season ends.

For many, this means running sales or promotions that bring in as much interest and foot traffic as possible.

A large sum of these promotions began just after Thanksgiving, and are either constantly running through the holidays or rotating offers between now and Christmas.

Amazon (AMZN) – Get Free Report began with Cyber Monday deals to ring in the shopping season, and is still running alternating price cuts, depending on what you’re looking for. Target (TGT) – Get Free Report and Walmart (WMT) – Get Free Report both held Black Friday deals, some of which are still ongoing until Christmas. Plenty of others, like Best Buy (BBY) – Get Free Report and other popular mall retailers are holding their own.

And while Costco (COST) – Get Free Report hosts its own version of holiday savings during the colder festive months, it’s also become a popular destination for year-round discounts.

It’s not just the discounts people love. It’s the food experience, the $1.50 hot dog combo, the samples, and the myriad of choices it offers (where else can you buy a kayak, a pair of jeans, diamond jewelry, organic fruit, and some of the best vodka around?).

Costco brings back a popular snack

In September, Costco customers began chattering about the absence of the Kirkland brand peanut pretzels. The snack, which – of course – comes in bulk sized 3-pound packaging, features square shaped pretzel pillow nuggets filled with creamy peanut butter.

“On Friday, my hubby went to purchase his favorite snack in the whole world: a tub of Kirkland Peanut Butter Pretzels,” a concerned Reddit user wrote. “None were on the floor, but he spotted a pallet on a lower shelf. He patiently waited for the staff to unwrap a pallet to procure two tubs for him. When he got to the register, a staff member told him that the pretzels were recalled and they were unable to sell it to him.”

Upon further investigation, it did not appear that the pretzel snacks were recalled.

“Probably a ‘pull & hold’ while something is being looked into,” one user surmised.

“WHAT?! I’m 1.5 containers deep this month,” a concerned user wrote.

“We started to get a little panicky when we couldn’t find them for 2 weeks,” another wrote.

Now, however, it appears the fan favorite items have returned to shelves.

“Found in Colorado. Got two just in case,” an observant Redditor wrote.

Costco hasn’t officially addressed the nearly three month absence, though one employee on Reddit claimed to have the story.

“We got a pull and hold notice at my Costco because the seals aren’t holding on the jars, so they are showing up stale,” one employee wrote on Reddit.

Customers can nab their own three pound jug of Kirkland Peanut Butter Pretzels for under $30 at their local Costco. Just be sure to call ahead to make sure your local store is keeping them in stock.
