Glen Powell had the perfect response to an awkward Golden Globes mix-up, after the Top Gun: Maverick star was mistaken for Justin Hartley.
Hartley, 46, arrived on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday night, along with his wife Sofia Pernas, 34. The Hollywood Reporter shared a snap of the This is Us star looking dapper in a tan suit on X, formerly Twitter, but mistakenly identified him as Powell.
The 35-year-old actor poked fun at the gaffe. Sharing a screenshot of the blunder, Powell wrote: “I think this is the perfect time to announce that @justinhartley and I will be starring in the most boring body-swap movie of all time.”
Since being shared, the joke has received over 1.1 million views.
“Ok it’s actually pretty funny when this happens to white people,” said Ryan Aguirre.
“It should be about how you guys swapped bodies right before the golden globes and nobody noticed,” suggested @lookoutitsbbear.
“The upcoming reboot of the parent trap,” commented Priya.
“No, no. More ambition. Let’s remake Face/Off,” wrote @csoppenhuizen.
Marianne Mondello praised Powell for “being a good sport,” while Melissa Masters called him “the true winner of the night” for his reply.
The Hollywood Reporter didn’t seem to mind Powell poking fun at them, responding: “well played @glenpowell – … and apologies! We have our glasses on now!”
Lookalike Patrick Schwarzenegger was also keen to get involved in the hypothetical body swap flick, with the actor and son of Arnold Schwarzenegger commenting: “I want in.”
“Hang on, let me start writing this script,” wrote user Maggie Lovitt.
“I’d actually pay to see that movie,” said synthdaddy.
“It better be on hallmark!” demanded @laststandhats.
Although his breakthrough role was as “Himbo” Chad Radwell in Ryan Murphy’s campus horror series Scream Queens, Powell is best known for starring as Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and aerial adventure Devotion.
In 2022, Powell denied rumors that he would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as mutant Cyclops in the X-Men franchise. His most recent movie was the 2023 rom-com Anyone But You, opposite Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, with his next project the 2024 action-thriller Twisters.
Hartley began his career as a soap opera star, playing Foxworth Crane in Passions between 2002 and 2006. He spent two years portraying Adam Newman in The Young and the Restless, along with starring as the Green Arrow in the Superman prequel Smallville.
He has also featured in several movies. He played a frat boy in comedy Spring Breakdown (2009) with Amy Poehler and Jane Lynch, a boxer in the sports drama film The Challenger (2015), and an exotic dancer in A Bad Moms Christmas (2017).
Hartley landed the leading role of Kevin Pearson in family drama This Is Us in 2016, which won four Emmy awards during its six-season run. He has since starred in the fellow NBC property Quantum Leap, with his new show, Tracker, debuting in February.
