A dog owner who posted a video marking one year since her canine passed away has brought the internet to tears after sharing the moment she knew it was time to say goodbye.

In the February 6 TikTok video, which was shared by user @babeweiser26, the owner was sitting on the floor across from her golden retriever. Her dog was looking at her with what seemed to be a smile on her face, but when the owner called her over, she didn’t budge.

The owner even tried to bribe her with a doggy treat, and still nothing. Her voice cracks as she continues to call her fur baby over. It clicked for her—a dog not moving for a treat could only mean the end of their journey.

The text on the heartbreaking clip reads: “The moment I knew it was time to say goodbye.”

Making the realization that it’s time for your pet to cross over the rainbow bridge is one of the hardest moments of life. While the decision to euthanize a dog is personal and ultimately up to the owner, vets can also provide guidance.

A few heartbreaking signs owners might notice include a dog’s refusal to eat, inability to walk, life-threatening injury, a significant decrease in quality of life or a loss of interest in activities they previously enjoyed.

While the above are just guidelines, these signs can help owners assess their pets. Knowing when it is time to say goodbye can help owners prepare and give their fur babies the most fun-filled final days.

Reactions From Viewers

It has been impossible for viewers to hold back their tears watching the February 6 TikTok video. The clip reached nearly 5 million views with over 942,000 likes and 6,050 comments as of Friday.

One viewer pointed out: “The realization in your voice towards the end.” An instant heartbreaker.

Someone else added: “This is my worst fear, never ready to lose my best friend.”

Others shared their deepest condolences: “I’m sorry, hearing the sadness in your voice is heartbreaking. Prayers for you and that angel.”

Some viewers have mentioned similar experiences when their dogs denied food, saying it completely shattered their world. This owner reminded everyone to “cherish every single moment” with their pets.
