The Aguilas are struggling to sign players and today they missed out on one more: Paul Arriola will no longer be joining Club America as FC Dallas won them over and got something else in the process.
And that something else is what led the Texans to sit down and talk with Arriola’s former team, DC United so that both teams could benefit.
Although the signing has not yet been announced as a fact, media outlets reported that the Coapa club is now no longer in the bidding for the USMNT international and that he will most likely wear the colors of FC Dallas in MLS 2022.
FC Dallas got Arriola but also got something else, what was it?
Because the deal will be between two Major League Soccer teams, there will be full money for DC United, which is why the Wasington club decided Arriola would be better off with the Frisco Kids.
But why did this happen? What happened was that according to Major League Soccer’s transfer regulations, when a team makes a sale abroad it can only use 50 percent of the amount since the rest of the money goes to the league; but if the transfer is between U.S. league clubs, all the proceeds can be used.
Therefore, it was in DC United’s best interest to sell the player to another team in the same league, since in this way they could keep all the proceeds from the sale.
And it is likely that in the future United will ask FC Dallas for the same or a similar favor if the sale of the player to FC Dallas is completed.
How does Paul Arriola feel about the decision being made by the clubs and not the player?
Although neither the player nor the clubs have made the transfer official so far, it is very likely that more information will be known during the course of the week, but what is known is what Arriola thinks about the issue.
The USMNT international gave his impressions on the discussion and is apparently aware that the final decision is made by the clubs before the players.
On the possibility of his arrival at Club America, Arriola said:
“With all due respect, I don’t have anything concrete right now about my future. Not everything is my decision, whether I want to go to America or not. I want to go to a place that will help me get to the World Cup and be successful. The truth is that I cannot control everything. I know that the clubs are talking and now the opportunity is complicated by the club’s decision. I have all the respect, I understand that this is a business and everything has its time. I am focused on the national team and what we do here”.
For the player, his top priority at the moment is the World Cup qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and while his professional future at the club level is important to him, nothing is more important than the USMNT.
And he made that abundantly clear with his statements about his national team’s upcoming matches to secure their ticket to the World Cup.
Arriola commented on this topic:
“What I think, what I feel is that I already want to have my head free for the games coming up with the National Team. Right now it is the most important thing for me, the club’s situation is a bit complicated. I can’t do much, I have to have faith in every club and situation. Now I’m with the national team trying to focus on the camp and what’s to come.
What will Club America do now that their plan A fell through, do they have a plan B in mind?
